Karate Kid Thursday

We deviated off the schedule and ten of us headed to the movies since our numbers weren't too big today.
We watched Karate Kid , grabbed some sound bytes straight after.
Before we headed to the cinema we looked at an online review site to see what reviewing a movie online was all about EG: Click Here
We took note that the sites often used pictures or video clips of the movie. They put the title, director and actors and a bit about the plot. And most sites used stars for the rating. Some sites even had a poll, which we're going to do too. But instead of stars as our ratings , we are going to use a karate kick icon taken from the movie promo's.

Cycle Adventures in the mix....

Spooners Tunnel on the agenda - headlamps and bikes! Nelson has so many incredible cycle trails and bike tracks to explore. We want to give the children at Yikes a taste of this adventure but also help them develop practical skills around this. Thomas Smith our French connection is passionate about cycling and will impart his knowledge and passion to the kids. Thomas will conduct workshops in the holidays covering bike maintainence and obstacle/slalem courses and then in the afternoon the kids will head out to ride some trails.

Highlights from Basic Engineering Techniques with Kim Brice

It started with an egg and materials found round the home Would their egg survive dropping from a height and land without cracking? There would be some prospective engineers I would climb into any aircraft they built, but some I am afraid I would think twice about, after seeing some splatter lol. Kim 's workshops never ceased to amaze me how all the children were engaged and on task. That is a great skill. Engineers need to test their design Did the egg land safely ??? Yikes was privileged to host three workshops tutored by Kim Brice. The kids were engaged and learnt valuable skills and were able to enjoy the journey of design and engineering. The Nelson ARK who take young people on a journey of self-discovery and work with abandoned dogs will take a session at their facility with our 8 yrs + on Tuesday 19th: 4 ARK graduates and dogs will demonstrate dog body language, tricks and dog display and some agility work.
